Silverton High School
Chapter No. 1502
FBLA History
The FBLA concept was developed in 1937 by Hamden L. Forkner of Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City. In 1940 FBLA became a part of the National Council for Business Education. The first chapter, in Johnson City, Tennessee, began in 1942. The Oregon Chapter of FBLA, was chartered by the national organization in 1959.
Silverton History
When the Silverton Chapter No. 1502 was chartered, the industry in Silverton centered around lumber products. Through our 52 years as a chapter, we have seen Silverton grow into a strong, business-oriented community. Interest in business education and career development has prospered in our school system in conjunction with the business growth within the community. This interest has strengthened as well as encouraged students' involvement in our organization, the Future Business Leaders of America. Each year, just under 10% of our student body joins the Silverton chapter to expand their business knowledge and gain leadership skills.
