Expectations

Text: Marieb, E., Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pearson Education, Inc., publishing as Benjamin Cummings, 2008, 9th Edition.

Supplementals: Kapit & Elison, The Anatomy Coloring Book, 2nd ed., 1995, Harper & Collins,  A.D.A.M Essentials, Bodyworks, CyberEd Enzymes

Expectations:

1.  Be Responsible

·         Bring your textbook, notebook, & other materials to class.

·         Complete all work on time.

·         Stay on task; use class time wisely.

  • No cell phones or music players (iPods, etc.) allowed.

2.        Be Respectful. *

3.        Be safe.

*Failure to comply with these expectations will result in conference with teacher, phone call home, or referral to the office. *Unsafe, harassing, or intimidating behaviors will result in immediate suspension.

Resources & Extra Help:  My office hours are before/after school. See me before/after school, during Fox Pause, or RIE for help. Visit Moodle for calendar, notes and handouts.  (See “Students” link on the school’s website)

Textbooks: You are responsible for taking care of your book. Protect your book with a book cover. Write your name on the inside and outside. Do not toss your book into your locker. Do NOT stuff papers in your book. This is the number one reason why students are charged with a rebinding fee at the end of the year. You must return exact book that was checked out to you or be charged for a new book.

Dissections: The best way to learn anatomy is through mammalian dissection. We will be dissecting cats, cow eyes, and sheep hearts. Online opportunities will be available for those that want the virtual dissection experience.

Attendance:  Attendance is crucial! You’ll miss lab preparations, group discussions, and other experiences for which there are no reasonable substitutes. You will earn a zero on assignments, projects, or quizzes during unexcused absences. Yes, if you ditch class the day of a test, you earn a zero. OUCH! Make wise decisions! You are expected to attend class 92% of the semester.

Tardies: Be in your seat with your materials before the bell rings. Don’t be late! If you are, bring a note. Unexcused tardies result in lunch or after school suspensions.

Hall Passes:  Generally, I don’t give hall passes. Take care of your needs between classes. If your previous class is far away, take your stuff so you don’t have to go by your locker before coming to class.

Hints for Success: Expect to spend 3-5 extra hours a week spending  extra time in the lab and at home studying specimens, studying your notes, color plates, and textbook. We’ll have lots of fun, but you will be mentally, physically, and at times, emotionally challenged as we progress through this course. I know you can deal with it! I’ll be here to help!

I am looking forward to a challenging and rewarding year.
Be prepared to work hard- it’s worth it!  ~Mrs. Read

Grading Policy

Grading: This class is graded by an accumulation of points earned on tests, quizzes, and labs. Your percentage of the total points possible determines your letter grade. The scale used is as follows:

90 -100% = A                Approximately 2/3 of your grade is earned through tests and 1/3 through labs and assignments.

80 -  89% = B

70 -  79% = C

60 -  69% = D

  0 -  59% = F

Assignments:  Late work receives ½ credit. Labs and tests make-ups are before/after school Monday – Thursday in room 25. If you are absent on test days, you must contact me BEFORE the test or you will earn a zero on the test.

Extra credit is sometimes available...keep your eyes and ears open for details.
